FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Tutorow scores game-winning goal in 3-1 win over Houghton – Head Coach Diane Monkiewicz claims 99th career victory

MANSFIELD – Kristy Tutorow scored what would prove to be the winning goal in the 42nd minute to lift Mansfield to a 3-1 win over visiting Houghton in college field hockey action Wednesday afternoon at Spaulding Field.

Mansfield took a 1-0 lead when sophomore Kristyn Grunza scored her ninth goal of the season by lifting the ball into the upper corner of the net from 10 yards out 19 minutes into the game.

Although Mansfield held a 17-2 shot advantage in the first half, the Mountaineers turned just one of those shots into a goal to lead 1-0 at halftime.

Houghton tied the score five minutes into the second half on a shot by Ruthie Doolittle off an assist from Ashley Engle. Mansfield retook the lead two minutes later when Tutorow took a deflected shot off the defender on a penalty corner to give Mansfield a 2-1 advantage.

Mansfield put the game away in the 54 minute on sophomore Alycia Pici's third goal of the season.

The Mountaineers held a 26-6 shot and 11-4 penalty corner advantage in the game. Mansfield freshman goalie Kristie Rollman recorded two saves in picking up the win while Houghton goalie Hillery Duman was credited with 17 saves.

The win also gave head coach Diane Monkiewicz her 99th career victory since taking over the helm of the Mountaineer program in 1998.

Mansfield improves to 4-6 overall and host Mercyhurst in a key PSAC West matchup on Saturday.
