Rell '20 enters his third season as the Mansfield assistant men's basketball coach in 2024-25.
To finish the 2023-24 season, the Mounties to their first playoff appearance since the 2012-13 season after his most wins and conference wins during his tenure. Saraj Ali was named to the All-PSAC Second Team and the team picked up key victories along the way. The Mounties defeated Shippensburg twice, their first season sweep since 2013-14 and first win at the Raiders since 2014. The team also grabbed two overtime victories and reached the century mark in a game for the first time since 2022.
In 2022-23, the Mounties landed their second consecutive PSAC East Rookie of the Year honors, when freshman forward Saraj Ali brought home the award.
As A Student
Rell, who was a guard for the Mounties from 2018-20, returns to the MU after spending two seasons as the men's assistant basketball coach at Lorain County Community College.
As a player, Rell appeared in 43 games and made 27 starts in the Mountaineer backcourt, where he averaged 4.3 points, 2.0 assists and knocked down 23 trifectas over two seasons.
Rell began his playing career at Lorain County in Ohio, where he averaged 10.5 points per game over his two years, while shooting 45 percent from 3-point land in his two years.
While coaching at Lorain County, Rell was a key figure in recruitment, practice planning and skill development.
Rell became a lead floor coach and trainer for Hoop Tech 360 during May of 2022, where he runs 1-on-1 and small group training to develop shooting mechanics and hand-eye coordination, as well as teaching fellow members how to use the newest technological equipment.
Rell is a 2020 graduate of Mansfield University, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in digital communications.
