Mansfield Earns Homecoming Victory over Molloy 34-7

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers sprint football team defeated the Molloy Lions 34-7 on Homecoming weekend, on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Weston Bellows shined on both sides of the ball. He had 18 carries for 86 yards and a touchdown and had an interception on defense. Joseph Frye was 11-17 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. He added another 30 yards on the ground. Jerry Holmes Jr. was the leading receiver with three receptions for 80 yards and a score.

On defense, Jackson Taylor had 10 total tackles, and Jack Burbage had eight total tackles. Eight different Mounties had tackles for loss. Matt Machmer and Bellows had an interception each.
Mansfield (2-0) and Molloy (0-2) battled to a stalemate after the first quarter of play.

The Mounties broke on to the scoreboard first on a Nolan Zona 31 yard field goal to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead.

Mansfield would score on the next three possessions. Bellows would score his first touchdown on the season, punching the ball in from three yards out to give the Mounties the 10-0 lead.

Bellows interception on the ensuing Lion possession would lead to a five play 47 yard drive caped off by Frye finding Holmes in the flat for the six yard touchdown. Mansfield led 17-0.

Frye would find an open Shamus Lesher for the three yard score with 1:01 remaining in the half and took the 24-0 lead into the break.

In the third quarter, Molloy would turn an interception into an 18 yard touchdown pass to break through on the scoreboard cutting the lead to 24-7.

Mansfield would answer back with a three play drive, finished off by Burbage rushing in the endzone from four yards out. Mansfield led 31-7.

Zona would bookend the game hitting his second field goal of the day, this one from 26 yards, to give Mansfield the 34-7 lead.
