CALDWELL, N.J.-
Jerry Holmes Jr. set a new Mansfield sprint football single game receiving yards record, as the Mountaineers defeated Caldwell 41-20, on the road, On Friday, Oct. 2.

Holmes had six receptions for 189 yards and a pair of touchdowns. It bests the previous record set by Cahsid Raymond in 2024 (164 yds.).Â

Joseph Frye threw for 359 yards and three touchdowns. It is the second most yards in a game in program history.Â
Â
Defensively, the Mountaineers (3-0) forced four interceptions.
Matt Machmer had two and Cameron Harwick and
Antonio Green Jr. had one each. Machmer has four interceptions on the season, which matches what he had a year prior. It gives him eight in his career which is second in program history.
Jackson Taylor had nine tackles to lead Mansfield.Â

Mansfield would score on their first possession connecting on a 27-yard field goal from
Nolan Zona to give them the 3-0 lead.Â

Mansfield would steal a possession back recovering a short kick.
Weston Bellows would finish off the three-play drive with a 19-yard run to give Mansfield a 10-0 lead. They would hold that score to the end of the quarter.Â

In the early moments of the second quarter Frye would put the finishing touch on a five-play 80-yard drive with an 18-yard run through the middle of the defense. Mansfield would lead 17-0.Â

Mansfield would surrender their first first-half touchdown on the year as Caldwell put together a 10-play 80-yard drive capped off with a 25-yard touchdown pass. Mansfield still led 17-7.Â

Mansfield would score again using three quick plays. Frye found Bellows for the 12-yard score to give the Mounties a 24-7 lead.Â

The Mountaineers got the ball back with 30 seconds remaining in the half. Frye would connect with Holmes for 60 yards to set up the 23-yard field goal from Zona. They took a 27-7 lead into halftime.Â

In the third quarter Mansfield would score again this time the 60-yard pass play to Holmes resulting in six points. Mansfield went up by a score of 34-7.Â

Mansfield would force an interception on the ensuing possession and would turn it into a Frye to Holmes seven-yard touchdown to go up 41-7. Â
Â
Caldwell would score a pair of touchdowns through the remainder of the contest, but the Mounties would claim the 41-20 victory.Â
