ITHACA, N.Y. – The Mansfield Mountaineers sprint football team opened the 2026 season with a 43-6 victory over Cornell, in the Josh Palmer Pigskin Classic, on Saturday, Sept. 19.
Joseph Frye had an incredible debut as the Mansfield quarterback. He was 8-13 for 196 yards and three touchdowns through the air and added another 157 yards and a pair of touchdowns on the ground.
Camryn Harwick was the leading receiver for the Mounties, collecting five receptions for 98 yards and a touchdown.
Jerry Holmes Jr. scored two touchdowns through the air and had 65 yards.
Defensively
Jackson Taylor had nine tackles and a sack and
Shamus Lesher had 1.5 sacks.
Matt Machmer and
Zach Bates each had an interception.
Nolan Zona hit on a 22-yard field goal and was 4-4 on extra points.
Mansfield would score on their first possession of the game when Frye connected with Holmes for 28 yards to put the Mounties up 7-0. They would hold that lead at the end of the quarter.
The Frye to Holmes connection would link up for a 37-yard score with 8:52 remaining in the quarter to increase the lead to 14-0.
Mansfield would take a 17-0 lead into halftime when Zona hit the 22-yard field goal with 40 seconds in the half remaining.
On the first drive out of the half, Frye would connect with Harwick for a 64-yard touchdown to make the score 24-0. Fry would scamper for a 31-yard score on the next Mountaineer possession to increase the lead to 31-0.
Frye would outdo that on the next Mansfield possession breaking a 68-yard run to bring the lead to 37-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Mac Krauss would find
Darian Brown for a 50-yard touchdown pass early in the final quarter increasing the lead 43-0.
Cornell would score on their final possession of the game, but Mansfield would leave with a 43-6 victory.

Mansfield is back in action for the home opener on Saturday Sept. 26 when they host Molloy. The game will also serve as Mansfield's Homecoming Game.
