Mountaineers Drop PSAC East Doubleheader to Bloomsburg, Show Offensive Fight in Game Two

MANSFIELD, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team hosted a PSAC doubleheader against the Bloomsburg Huskies on April 8, dropping both contests but showing late offensive life in the nightcap.They fell 10-0 and 9-6.
 
GAME ONE: Bloomsburg 10 – Mansfield 0 (6 Innings)

Emma Maurer pitched two solid innings, tossing four strikeouts as the starter. Sarah Shupp led Mountie batters with two hits in the game.

Bloomsburg struck first in the game scoring a run in the early innings. Mansfield kept the game close until the Huskies would put together a four run fourth inning to go up 5-0.

The Huskies would plate five more in the sixth inning to force the run rule and take victory 10-0.

 
GAME TWO: Bloomsburg 9 – Mansfield 6

Mansfield responded in the second game with a much-improved offensive performance. Shupp would lead the way going 3-4 with a pair of RBIs. Four Mounties would have RBIs in the game.

Mansfield would strike first as Shupp would hit in Paige Reichard in the first inning to lead 1-0. The Huskies would tie the contest in the second 1-1. They would take the lead in the third inning, plating four runs, including a three-run homerun to lead 5-1.

Mansfield would respond with their best offensive inning of the year. Racheal Sherman would start the scoring with an RBI double. Shupp would bunt in Sherman to make it 5-3.

The bases were loaded, and Kylie Bornman would draw a walk that made it 5-4. Shannon Perlungher would single in the tying run a batter latter making it 5-5. Madison Stahli would draw a walk next to give the Mounties a 6-5 lead.

The fourth inning would remain quiet before the Huskies offense came alive again in the fifth. Back-to-back RBI singles would plate the go ahead run and a pair more runs would score in the inning making it 9-6.

Both pitchers kept the teams at bay for the final innings and the final score was 9-6.
