MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineer softball team had two games slip away on the road against Millersville on Saturday, March 21.
Mansfield fell by scores of 3-2 and 6-5.
GAME 1: MILLERSVILLE 3 – MANSFIELD 2
Mansfield (3-9, 0-4 PSAC East) fought hard in the first game using a strong third inning, but the Marauders eked out a win.
Sarah Shupp and Lilliana Moyer had RBIs and Aubry Reinert went 2-4 with a run.
The Mounties conceded a pair of runs in the first inning. They would respond in the top of the third on a Shupp RBI double to cut the lead to 2-1. Moyer would tie the game two batters later scoring Shupp on a single and tieing the game 2-2.
The Marauders (13-7, 3-1 PSAC East) would get the go ahead in the bottom of the inning on a solo homerun. Mansfield was held at bay the following four innings for a 3-2 final.
Britni Motter pitched four innings and had four strikeouts.
GAME 2: MILLERSVILLE 6 – MANSFIELD 5
Mansfield had a lead slip away late in the second game.
Rachel Sherman was 3-3 with 2 RBIs and Reinert also had a pair of RBIs.
The Mounties struck first in the second inning as Sherman brought in two on a single. Reinhart added another on a fielders choice RBI one batter later. Mansfield was up 3-0.
Alex Reisinger singled in another run an inning later for the Mountaineers to go up 4-0. Millersville would add a run in the third to make the score 4-1. Reinert would drive in her second run of the game on a sacrifice fly in the fourth, making the score 5-1.
Millersville would respond in a big way in the fifth inning scoring four runs, the first on an RBI double then on a three-run homerun. The score was tied 5-5.
An error lead to the deciding run in the sixth and Mansfield fell by a score of 6-5.
