MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield University women's basketball team competed in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Wednesday afternoon, January 7, against West Chester University. The Mountaineers dropped the contest 72–66 at Decker Gymnasium.
Katie Sheeler led the red and black with 25 points, six rebounds, and three assists, while Jenna Burkett added 11 points and four assists.
The opening minutes of play were competitive, with leads trading throughout the first quarter. West Chester finished the first ten minutes with a three-point advantage, 19–16.
Both teams continued to find the hot hand in the second quarter, keeping the Golden Rams and Mountaineers even. KJ Gordon knocked down a deep three-pointer just before halftime to tie the game at 31–31.
Coming out of the break, both squads found open looks and kept the battle close, with WCU holding a slim 52–51 lead heading into the fourth quarter.Â
The red and black were unable to keep their foot on the gas late, as West Chester pulled away in the final minutes to secure the 72–66 win.
