MANSFIELD. Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team competed against the Southern Connecticut State Owls, in the final game of the Dr. Art DeGenaro Classic, taking victory with a score of, 6-0, on Sunday (Sept. 7)
Jenna Duke collected her second career hat trick and fifth goal on the weekend. Mansfield (2-0) also had scores by
Ella du Plessis,
Kathleen Marchiani, and
Sophia Vadnais to give them six on the day.
The first quarter of play was a tough fought battle between the two teams exchanging possession across the field.
Eager to start the second quarter junior, Marchiani, rushed one up the side hitting it in the goal to put the Mounties on the board.
Duke's first goal of the game followed quickly after, as she was assisted by
Leah Toskey. The Owls (0-2) tried to get back on their feet when Duke stole the ball and notched another with the help of
Sophia Castaldo, giving Mansfield a 3-0 lead.
The sneaky moves of du Plessis allowed a pass from
Kiley Stoltzfus to bring the score up by one more.
Duke found her way down into the circle where she hooked one right to the net, collecting her second career hat trick.
The Mounties final goal came from a penalty stroke given to
Sophia Vadnais after a foul in the circle, finalizing the score 6-0.
The Owls had two corner attempts after but were unable to put any points up on the board.
