MANSFIELD, Pa. – The No. 9 Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team (2-1) hosted their first nationally ranked contest of the season against No. 3 East Stroudsburg (3-0) as the Warriors squeaked by the Mounties, 1-0, on Wednesday (Sept. 10) afternoon.
A competitive top ten contest was provided with the Warriors and Mounties only combining for three shots in the first quarter, including one from Melanie Esh.Â
ESU peppered four shots on goal to end the half, but no ball connected into the cage as the teams went into the locker rooms, 0-0.
The solo goal was delivered at 38:11 to deliver the only scoreboard clicker of the day and continued to hold their lead through the remainder of the game. Â
Mansfield landed four penalty corners, including one with 45 seconds remaining, but could not deliver the equalizer and East Stroudsburg snuck away with the 1-0 victory.
Esh led the team with three shots and one on goal, and the other shot on goal was landed from Kathleen Marchiani.Â
Lydia Miller picked up ten saves and stopped a penalty corner in the second quarter.Â
