MANSFIELD Pa. – The #6 Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team dropped a ranked duel with #7 Newberry College 4-2 on Friday, Sept. 19, in neutral sight action, hosted by West Chester University.

Sophia Castaldo and
Leah Toskey each had their first goal of the season.
Ella du Plessis had three shots on goal and
Lydia Miller had seven saves for the Mountaineers (3-2).
                                
Castaldo scored first for the Mounties, just under six minutes in, off an assist from
Jenna Duke to lead 1-0. It is the first career goal for Castaldo.

The Wolves (4-0) would knot the game in the final minute of the first quarter to make the score 1-1.

Newberry would take the lead five minutes into the second quarter a goal of a penalty corner, going up 2-1.

Mansfield was awarded a penalty stroke where Toskey was able to convert her first goal of the season, evening up the score 2-2 at the half.

The pendulum swung back to Newberry scoring early in the third quarter adding a pair of goals to lead 4-2.

The Mounties had a couple chances in the final quarter but were unable to find the cage dropping the contest by the score of 4-2
