MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mountaineer Athletic department announced the winners of the prestigious Creed Awards at the Mountie Awards ceremony on Wednesday (Apr. 30) afternoon.Â

Started in 2020, the Mansfield athletic department has selected four student-athletes to represent the pillars of the Mansfield University creed. The students were nominated by athletic staff members and were chosen by a committee. The four pillars of our creed are character, scholarship, culture, and service.

Field hockey and women's basketball's
Kenedy Stroup was selected as the student-athlete to represent character, being nominated by head coaches
Brittany Hansrote and
Amy Senefelder.
"When it comes to character, it's hard to find someone who exemplifies it more than Stroup. As a two-sport athlete in field hockey and basketball, Kenedy served as a team captain for both programs, demonstrating respect and responsibility, both on and off the court/field" said both coaches. Stroup finished out her career with a First Team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) nod and her second All-American accolade in the fall and stood out as a key leader in the winter. The senior leaves the field, holding the fifth most assists in program history.
Softball's
Emma Wonsick was selected as the student-athlete to represent scholarship, being nominated by head coach
Edith Gallagher.
While being recognized as a multiple PSAC Scholar Athlete and a D2 ADA Academic Achievement athlete through her perfect 4.0 status, Wonsick has represented Mansfield to a higher degree with her extensive commitment to her research. Spanning multiple conferences, internships, and scholars' programs, the junior will continue her expertise this summer in the Short-Term Educational Program to Unlock Potential (STEP-UP) through the National Institute of Health's National Institutes of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK).
Men's basketball
Jaydan Montgomery was selected as the student-athlete to represent culture, being nominated by head coach
John Szentesy.
Montgomery has been a leader on and off the court throughout the Mansfield community. As a team captain and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the junior emphasizes the importance of team, Mansfield, and all culture. On the court, the guard represents the red and black to his best ability, showing class and respect of the Mansfield fans. Off the court, Montgomery was a part of the men's basketball's partnership with the Humble Bumble Project, helping an organization fill "Bumble Bags" to send to patients undergoing chemotherapy.
Softball's
Sarah Sherman was selected as the student-athlete to represent service, being nominated by head coach
Edith Gallagher.
Sherman represents the Mansfield name with her involvement in athletics, the university, and the community. Helping to set up many Mansfield events including Final Friday Market and the Trunk-Or-Treat, Sherman also dedicates her time to pursuing a better purpose for the Mansfield community. The junior represents as a student liaison in the Betterment Organization of Mansfield (BOOM), as a student-athlete board member for the Mansfield College Community Service Inc. (CCSI), and as the Student Government Assocation (SGA) representative for SAAC. The pitcher also shows her service to the people of the community, serving as a crucial management assistant for the sprint football program, has helped with the Tioga County Special Olympics, and even runs her own cupcake business in her own time.Â
