MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineer Athletic Department have announced their male and female Spring Athletes of the Year for the 2024-25 academic year on Thursday (Jun. 12) afternoon.
On the women's side, softball's
Annabella Putnam takes home her first Athlete of the Year award and became the program's first winner since the 2020-21 season. On the men's side, baseball's
Jacob Houtz repeated as the male Athlete of the Year, becoming the program's fourth consecutive winner.
Putnam stamped her name in the records books after her final season as the Mountaineer ace. Five career categories are inked with the pitcher's name, including fifth in program history in appearances (73), sixth in innings (345.0), sixth in strikeouts (272), tied ninth in complete games (33), and tied for ninth in shutouts (4). Her season marked many of her personal bests, showing out with the program's fifth 100 strikeout season, posting 108 and finished with five appearances of one earned run or less.
Houtz finished his collegiate career by crowding his trophy case. His multiple accolades include an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American Third Team member, a Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) All-American Honorable Mention, the NCBWA, D2CCA, ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic Region Player of the Year, and the PSAC Eastern Division Athlete of the Year. To highlight the program's best athlete in many years, the senior led the PSAC regular season in batting average (.444), total bases (118), OPS (1.433), slugging percentage (.874), and on-base percentage (.559). He finished top five in the conference in hits (61), RBIs (50), runs (48), doubles (16), home runs (14), while ranking eighth nationally in average, seventh in OBP, and sixth in slugging percentage.
