MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineer Athletic Department have announced their male and female Winter Athletes of the Year for the 2024-25 academic year on Wednesday (Jun. 11) afternoon.
On the women's side, women's basketball's
Katie Sheeler grabbed her first Athlete of the Year accolade, with the program represented two of the last three seasons. On the men's side, men's basketball's
Scott Woodring finished out his career with his first Athlete of the Year award as the program's fourth winner in the past five years.
Sheeler represented the women's basketball program on the PSAC Eastern Division Second Team after a breakout sophomore season. The guard led the PSAC regular season with 73 three-pointers. Her 73 threes stood as the second most in a single season for the Mounties, while also tying the program record for three-pointers in a game with eight in the final game of the season at Shippensburg. With 11 games of 20+ points on the year, the sophomore averaged 16.6 points, finishing fourth in the conference and sank the fourth most free throws with 117.
Woodring became the 27th Mountaineer to eclipse 1,000 career points and finished his career, starting all 109 games as a Mountie, standing as the second most by a player in program history. The center finished the season with 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds, while shooting 44.2% on the year. The graduate student finished ninth all-time in blocks for the program and helped the team to their most home wins since the 2016-17 season.
