Mansfield Swept in Friday Doubleheader at Bloom

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Mountaineer baseball team (13-26, 7-15 PSAC East) traveled to Bloomsburg University for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division doubleheader against the Huskies (18-24, 7-15 PSAC East) on Friday (Apr. 25) afternoon.

Game One: Bloomsburg 19, Mansfield 7

Bloomsburg broke game one wide open early, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a Grand Slam and a bases-clearing double with the bases loaded.

Ryan Sekulski scored two with his RBI single down the right field line.

The Huskies added four more in the third to take a 12-2 lead over the Mountaineers with a three-run homer and an RBI single.

Mansfield scored three in the fifth off a Ryan Scott RBI single, a Shane Stossel sac-fly, and a Jacob Houtz single, but the Huskies halted the Mountie momentum, scoring seven runs in the bottom half of the fifth.

The Mountaineers were able to push two more across in the sixth but dropped game one of the doubleheader.

Game Two: Bloomsburg 5, Mansfield 1

Mansfield started game two quickly, taking a 1-0 lead with a Cole Serfass RBI single. The Mounties didn't hold the lead for long as the Huskies scored three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead after one.

The Mountaineer defense turned an inning-ending 1-6-3 double-play that was capped off by a scoop at first by Stossel in the bottom of the second to halt the Bloomsburg threat.

A sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third extended the Bloomsburg lead to 4-1.

A solo homer in the fourth stretched the Huskies' lead out to 5-1. The Mounties were unable to rally and fell in game two.
