MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team finished off five straight home doubleheaders of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action with Shepherd (21-16-1, 17-18-1 PSAC East) on Saturday (Apr. 19) afternoon, ending in a sweep for the Rams in a 17-5 game one victory and a 13-3 game two win.
GAME 1: Shepherd 17 - Mansfield 5
After an early RBI for the Rams, Mansfield (8-28, 6-22 PSAC East) pushed out two runs in the opening inning to hold the 2-1 edge.Â
Aubrey Reinert's sacrifice fly brought in Natalie Blackstone and Sarah Shupp scored off a Shepherd error. Kylie Bornman added another run in the third inning with an RBI single to score Reinert.Â
Shepherd bounced back with an emphatic five run stamp in the top of the fourth to regain the 6-3 advantage.Â
The Rams added four more to the scoreboard in the top of the fifth to increase their lead to 10-3.
A well-placed ball in the outfield by Blackstone allowed Rachel Sherman and Madison Bailey to score in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-5, but Shepherd offense made one more statement in the final inning to take game one, 17-5.
GAME 2: Shepherd 13 - Mansfield 3
Shepherd started off game two with their first home run of the day in the top of the second, sending a no-doubter over the center field fence.Â
Shupp doubled to left field in the bottom of the third to even the score at 1-1, driving in Blackstone. Caydence Macik gave Mansfield the lead with her second day in a row with a home run, with this no-doubter scorching over the center field fence for the 3-1 advantage.Â
The Rams copied and pasted the game one script, retaking the lead again in the top of the fourth, after a seven-run inning to go ahead 8-3.
Shepherd packed on runs in the top of the fifth and the final inning to end their day with the Saturday sweep, winning game two 13-3.

Mansfield head to Shippensburg for their final road doubleheader of the season on Tuesday (Apr. 22). First pitch against the Raiders is scheduled for 2 p.m., followed by game two with the Eastern Division foe expected to start at 4 p.m.
