Mounties Drop PSAC Battle with West Chester

The Mansfield softball team competed in their fourth straight home contest.

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team hosted their fourth straight home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader with West Chester (28-13, 14-10 PSAC East) on Friday (Apr. 18) afternoon, ending in a sweep for the Golden Rams in a 10-2 game one victory and a 9-5 game two win.

GAME 1: West Chester 10 - Mansfield 2 (5 innings)

Through the first two innings, West Chester piled up three runs for the early lead.

Mansfield (8-26, 6-20 PSAC East) found the first run across home plate via a Caydence Macik homer in the second to limit the lead to 3-1.

Over the next three innings, the Golden Rams used four home runs to power out to a 10-1 advantage.

Sarah Shupp's RBI double sent Melissa Demo around the diamond, but West Chester finished off the contest with the 10-2 win.

GAME 2: West Chester 9 - Mansfield 5

WCU started out with a commanding 5-0 advantage after the first inning.

Sarah Shupp posted the first run for the Mounties with a solo blast to the scoreboard in the bottom of the first.

In a bases loaded situation, the Mountaineers evened the game back to 5-5 after the third. Alex Reisinger singled in the jammed situation and Kylie Bornman cleared the bases with a left field line drive.

Four late runs for the Golden Rams saved the softball sweep as West Chester snuck out a 9-5 victory.
