MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team competed against their fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with No. 16 Kutztown (29-10, 13-7 PSAC East) on Sunday (Apr. 13) afternoon, with their first of five straight doubleheaders ending in a sweep for the Golden Bears in a 6-1 game one victory and an 11-7 game two win.
GAME 1: #16 Kutztown 6 - Mansfield 1
Kutztown put on the early pressure in the second with bases jammed, but Mansfield (6-22, 4-16 PSAC East) survived two infield smacks with plays at the plate to keep the game scoreless, as Annabella Putnam blanked the Golden Bears through the first three inning.
Kutztown singled up the middle to start the fourth to earn their first RBI of the afternoon.
Another RBI single came around in the top of the fifth for the Golden Bears to cement a 2-0 edge.Â
Melissa Demo was credited with the solo RBI in the bottom of the fifth, scoring Rachel Sherman, but the opponent blasted two home runs for four insurance runs in the final inning to seal the 6-1 start to the afternoon.
GAME 2: #16 Kutztown 11 - Mansfield 7
Caydence Macik started off game two with a two-run shot to left field, scoring Alex Reisinger for the 2-0 start after the second inning.Â
Kutztown snapped back with four runs in the top of the fourth for the 4-2 edge.
Alex Reisinger pushed her first career home run over the right field wall, scoring Emma Maurer in the bottom half of the inning to tie the contest at 4-4.
A two-run blast gave the Golden Bears a 6-4 cushion, but Natalie Blackstone reset the game once more with a two RBI single, scoring Olivia Ackerson and Liliana Moyer to even the conference clash at 6-6 after the fourth inning.
Three runs were all the nationally ranked Golden Bears needed in the fifth inning and two insurance runs in the seventh to come away with the 11-7 victory.Â

Mansfield will host Millersville tomorrow, Monday (Apr. 14), for another PSAC battle. First pitch against the Marauders is scheduled for 1 p.m., followed by game two with the Eastern Division foe expected to start at 3 p.m.
