Demo Reaches 100 Career Hits in Mansfield's Split with Shippensburg

The Mansfield softball senior earned 100 hits as the team grabbed a split on Tuesday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team returned to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) home action against Shippensburg (17-11, 6-6 PSAC East) as the Raiders picked up their first road conference wins with the 3-1 game one victory and the Mounties grabbed game two 10-6 win.

Melissa Demo reached her 100th career hit in game two of the series.

GAME 1: Shippensburg 6 - Mansfield 1

Through the first three innings, only two Raider players landed hits, while the defense shutout the Mounties at the plate.

Errors and groundouts led to Shippensburg picking up two runs in the fourth inning, while adding an RBI double in the top of the fifth to cement a 3-0 edge.

A Paige Reichard at-bat advanced Aubrey Reinert to home plate for the first Mansfield (6-16, 4-10 PSAC East) run after the fifth inning could not create a comeback chance with the bases jammed as the Raiders doubled their score in the final inning, finishing with the 6-1 victory.

GAME 2: Mansfield 10 - Shippensburg 6

Shippensburg stormed out to a 3-0 advantage after the second inning.

After an RBI single by Sarah Shupp to start the third, Caydence Macik blasted a three-run shot to left field, putting the Mountaineer out in front at 4-3.

The Raiders sticked out three more on the scoreboard, holding the 6-4 edge after the top of the fifth.

Shupp scored off an error in the bottom of the inning to limit the lead to 6-5.

A five-run inning pursued in the sixth, starting off with a Kylie Bornman home run to center to tie the game at 6.

Shupp posted the leading two run triple to give Mansfield the 8-6 advantage, followed by Emma Maurer reaching off an error and Shannon Perlungher scoring off a wild pitch to cement the 10-6 victory for the Mounties.
