Mounties Fall at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers (10-14) headed west to play Slippery Rock (15-9) in a single nine-inning cross-conference contest on Tuesday (Apr. 1) afternoon.

Austin Beauchamp started on the bump in Tuesday's midweek clash for the Mounties and retired six of the first seven batters he faced, two coming via a strikeout.

Slippery Rock scored the first run of the game in the third after a leadoff single and two stolen bases allowed the runner to score on a groundout to the pitcher.

Mansfield took the lead in the top of the fourth. Ryan Sekulski started the inning with a double down the left-field line, and Ryan Scott drove him in with a double of his own to left. Cole Serfass brought Scott in with an RBI single through the right side to put the Mounties up 2-1.

The Rock tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single to left field.

Beauchamp finished his day completing 6.0 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and striking out six on 87 pitches.

SRU took the lead in the seventh, scoring three runs on two hits, a pair of RBI singles. The other Slippery Rock run in the inning came on a fielder's choice as The Rock led 5-2 after seven.

The Mountaineers went in order over the last two innings of play and dropped the crossover contest in Slippery Rock.
