Mansfield Drops Doubleheader at No.11 ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa – The Mountaineers (10-16, 4-6 PSAC East) headed to East Stroudsburg to take on the No. 11 ranked Warriors (22-6, 8-2 PSAC East) for a PSAC doubleheader on Thursday (Apr. 3).
 
Game One: Mansfield 4, No. 11 East Stroudsburg 8
 
Austin Lewis got the ball in game one and retired six of the first seven batters he faced against ESU.
 
The Warriors jumped in front in the third after stringing four straight singles together to take a 2-0 lead.
 
Each side pushed one across in the fourth. The Mounties got on the board with a Jeffrey Coakley RBI before the Warriors responded with an RBI double in the bottom half to make it a 3-1 ballgame.
 
East Stroudsburg broke game one open in the fifth, scoring three runs on two hits, including a two-RBI single.
 
ESU extended their lead to 8-1 in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on an RBI double and an RBI groundout to short. 
 
Cole Serfass drove in two in the top of the seventh with his single, and Mike Buiso plated another with a single, but the Mansfield rally came up short as ESU took game one.
 
Game Two: Mansfield 0, No. 11 East Stroudsburg 10
 
The East Stroudsburg offense stayed hot into game two, putting up five runs in the second inning, led by the grand slam off the bat of the Warrior right fielder, Dennis Pierce.
 
The ESU offense exploded again in the third when they scored four runs on five hits to give themselves a 9-0 lead after three.
 
Pierce's second homer of the game for ESU made it 10-0 in the bottom of the fifth. The Warriors kept the Mounties' offense at bay as they finished the Thursday sweep of the Mountaineers.

The Mounties return home on Friday (Apr. 4) to complete their four-game series with the Warriors from Joseph Shaute Field. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
