SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. - Three RBIs from Sarah Shupp and Emma Maurer each helped the Mansfield Mountaineers softball team finished their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) weekend at Shepherd (11-11, 7-3 PSAC East), with the Rams earning the 2-1 game one victory, but the Mounties pulled out the game two 7-3 win.
Shupp went 3 for 4 in game two, with her first home run of the year in a three-run shot to earn the red and black game two and three runs.Â
Maurer had a two RBI double and another RBI at the plate in game two, while earning her first victory in the circle with seven strikeouts in her complete game.
GAME 1: Shepherd 2 - Mansfield 1
Shepherd posted the first two runs to remain in control for the rest of game one. Two RBI singles in the bottom of the third gave the Rams the 2-0 edge.Â
Natalie Blackstone represented the lone run for the Mountaineers (5-15, 3-9 PSAC East), scoring off a strikeout throwdown, resulting in heads up baserunning. Blackstone was the only Mountie with two hits, including a double.
Aubrey Reinert earns the RBI from the plate appearance and stamped the other hit.Â
Annabella Putnam finished with five strikeouts in her complete game appearance, shutting down the host after the third inning.Â
GAME 2: Mansfield 7 - Shepherd 3
Caydence Macik and Maurer rattled off two early runs for the red and black, scoring Blackston and Shupp to start with the 2-0 advantage.Â
Shepherd responded in the bottom half of the first to make it 2-1.Â
Maurer found her groove with a two run double down the left field line, bringing in both Macik and Shupp to storm out to a 4-1 edge after the third inning.Â
The Rams bounced back with two runs to cut the deficit to 4-3 before the final inning, looking to create a comeback.
Shupp's first smack of the season silenced the Rams, with her three-run shot scoring Rachel Sherman and Paige Reichard to give Mansfield the 7-3 victory.Â
