WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team started their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) weekend with their fourth consecutive road contest against No. 25 West Chester (19-6, 5-3 PSAC East) with the nationally ranked Golden Rams picking up their first conference sweep after the 6-2 game one victory and the game two 8-0 win.
GAME 1: West Chester 6 - Mansfield 2
Sarah Shupp returned to the lineup for the Mountaineers (4-14, 2-8 PSAC East), driving in the first run of the afternoon, with an RBI single after Madison Bailey reached base.Â
WCU tied the division dual in the bottom of the first, reaching on an error to even up the contest, 1-1.
Over the next three innings, West Chester picked up a run in each inning to stomp out to a 4-1 advantage.
An RBI triple with her scoring on the next at-bat put two insurance runs on the scoreboard for the Golden Rams in the bottom of the fifth inning to hold the 6-1 edge.
Kaelyn Watson posted the final run for the Mounties in the top of the seventh, scoring Rachel Sherman on an RBI double for the final score of a WCU 6-2 victory.Â
Bailey, Shupp, and Watson all collected a hit each, with Watson picking up the solo extra-base hit.Â
GAME 2: West Chester 8 - Mansfield 0 (5 innings)
WCU finished off the day with an early ended game two.Â
Two RBI singles started the scoring in the bottom of the third for the host.
An RBI double and a two RBI single posted three more for the Golden Rams in the bottom of the third inning.Â
The nationally ranked Golden Rams finished out the doubleheader with a two-run triple and an RBI single to end the afternoon with the 8-0 complete sweep.
Bailey completed a 2 for 2 game two at the plate and Natalie Blackstone and Katelyn Mesch each collected a hit.Â
