WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Mansfield baseball (8-11) headed to Historic Bowman Field to take on the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (10-13) for a non-conference PSAC contest on Wednesday (Mar. 26) afternoon.
Back-to-back hits for the Mounties gave them a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as
Ryan Sekulski scored on
Ryan Scott's RBI single.
Shane Stossel added another with an RBI single to left.
With a 2-0 lead and the bases loaded, Mansfield chased the Lock Haven starter just one out into the game.
A hit by pitch and a walk by the LHU reliever doubled the Mountaineer lead in the first out to 4-0.
Connor Adams' sacrifice fly and Sekulski's second hit of the inning made it a six-run lead after the first half inning.
Austin Beauchamp got the ball for Mansfield and got a quick two outs before the Bald Eagles got four straight to get two runs back in their half of the first.
Each side went quickly in the second, getting just one runner on before retiring.
Lock Haven got one run back in both the third and fourth to cut the Mountie lead to two at 6-4.
Cole Serfass got the Mountaineers offense back on the board with a 356-foot homer over the left field wall in the top of the fifth inning.
The Bald Eagles loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth with just one out but
Austin Beauchamp got the last two batters to strike out swinging and line out to second.
Beauchamp finished his day after six full innings of work, allowed five runs on 10 hits, and struck out x Bald Eagles.
In the seventh inning, Mansfield loaded the bases with one out but couldn't add any insurance runs to their lead as LHU retired the last two Mountaineer hitters.
Evan Woznick took the ball for the Mounties in the seventh and struck out two of the three batters faced in the inning to hold the slim 7-5 lead for Mansfield.
Woznick went back out for the eighth and got the first two outs quickly, but back-to-back singles put runners on the corners for LHU. Woznick buckled down and got the final batter to strike out looking and end the Lock Haven threat.
Stossel's sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth provided the Mountaineers with extra insurance before the home half of the inning.
Luke Raho came on for the save opportunity in the ninth. After Lock Haven got two back, Raho got a ground ball that looked to be the ender, but a bad hop in the infield allowed The Haven to tie the game at eight and force extras from Bowman Field.
After a scoreless 10th,
Ryan Scott tripled down the right field to score
Kahale Burns from first and push the Mounties ahead in the top of the 11th.
Raho went back out to finish the game in the bottom of the 11th, with two outs and a runner on second, Raho got the final batter to strike out looking and secure the victory over the Bald Eagles.
