Blackstone Caps Off Career Game as Mounties Split at Millersville

The Mansfield softball team finished the conference weekend on Saturday afternoon.

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team finished their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) weekend with their Eastern Division opponent Millersville (19-7, 3-3 PSAC East) with the Marauders earning the Saturday (Mar. 22) 7-3 game one win, but the Mounties pushed back to pick up the 6-3 game two victory.

Natalie Blackstone set her new career game high with four RBIs in game two, grabbing three hits and two doubles.

Reilly Storer picked up her first victory of her collegiate career in game two, allowing just one earned run.

GAME 1: Millersville 7 - Mansfield 3

Birthday batter Madison Bailey started things off for Mansfield (4-10, 2-4 PSAC East) with the first hit of the afternoon in the top of the third through the infield. Melissa Demo looked to drive her in with an infield single, but her at-bat restarted after she left the box early, keeping the first game scoreless.

Millersville put together a four-run inning to end the third, which was highlighted by a bases clearing double to put the Marauders ahead, 4-0.

Caydence Macik sent her first home run of the season over the left field wall to cut the deficit to 4-2 in the top of the fourth, bringing in Emma Maurer.

Demo's RBI triple to bring in Paige Reichard added the final run for Mansfield in the top of the seventh.

The Marauders added three more runs to close out the first game with the 7-3 victory.

Macik earned two of the team's three runs and Maurer stood as the lone Mountaineer with two hits.

GAME 2: Mansfield 6 - Millersville 3

Blackstone stole the show in game two of the afternoon. The Mounties slapped in three hits in the first three at-bats as senior started it off with an RBI double to drive in Demo. Sarah Shupp added the second run of the inning with an RBI single to score Blackstone. Macik ended the three-run start with a sacrifice fly to bring in Shupp.

Advancements in the bottom of the first allowed Millersville to score their first run, still down 3-1.

Blackstone stamped her career high, earning three RBIs off her two-run double to score Demo and Shannon Perlungher to bolster their 5-1 edge. The second baseman's next at-bat pushed Perlungher across home plate again in the top of the fourth to give the Mountaineers the 6-1 advantage.
