MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Katie Sheeler had a career day in the red and black, but the Mansfield Mountaineer women's basketball team could not add to it to overcome Millersville (14-10, 9-8 PSAC East) on Saturday (Feb. 15) afternoon, with the Marauders earning the 71-56 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory.
Sheeler reached her career high with 26 points, tied her most three-pointers in a contest in her career with six, and tied her most career field goals in a game with eight.Â
Sarah Hortin found nine points in the contest and ten rebounds, posting her eighth double digit rebound game on the year.Â
Mansfield (9-15, 5-13 PSAC East) opened up the game behind Sheeler's three three-pointers to begin the contest, her first instance of three in the first quarter since Penn State Schuylkill, but Millersville held the 11-9 start.Â
Despite the hot start for Sheeler, the Marauders made the rest of the field goals in the opening quarter and used the final minutes to open the gap to a 22-13 edge.Â
After an even start to the second quarter, the host found their first double-digit lead of the day at 29-19.Â
Sheeler reached 16 points before halftime and swished two more from beyond the arc, inching the Mounties closer. Her sixth three-pointer of the half was enough to already tie her career game high.
A shot from behind the arc gave Millersville the comfortable advantage needed, heading into halftime with the 38-27 lead.Â
Back and forth baskets to begin the second half saw the Marauders still in control at 45-31.Â
In part of a 15-2 run, Millersville sank seven straight field goals in the contest to open the scoring up, holding the 59-37 advantage, heading into the final quarter.Â
Mansfield went on an 11-2 run in the quarter, but the deficit was too much to overcome, giving the Marauders the 71-56 PSAC Eastern Division victory.Â
