Mansfield Yield on the Road to Lake Erie

The Mansfield men’s basketball team competed in non-conference action on Saturday evening.

ERIE, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers men's basketball team competed against Lake Erie College (5-0) in day one of the 41st Annual Gary Miller Classic hosted by Gannon University. Lake Erie College outpaced the Mounties with a final score of 126-87, on Saturday (Nov. 29) evening.

Diarmid Stewart led the Mountaineers with 15 points, two steals and six rebounds.

David Hill collected 13 points, one assist and three rebounds.

Mansfield (0–4) opened the game with an early basket from Jackson Henry, but Lake Erie quickly responded with a series of three-pointers that established control.

The Mountaineers relied on fastbreak scoring from Hill and Stewart to remain competitive, including a dunk that briefly cut the deficit to single digits.

However, the Storm maintained its momentum by converting 16 three-pointers, sending Mansfield into halftime trailing 70–39.

In the second half, Stewart and Hill initiated Mansfield's scoring with timely baskets, although Lake Erie continued to capitalize to preserve their lead.

The Mountaineers bounced back as LaQuan Byrd scored multiple interior baskets and Ty Barrett added points at the free-throw line.

Mansfield sustained its offensive production with additional contributions from Karson Dominick and Henry late in the game.

Despite outscoring Lake Erie in the final minutes, the first-half deficit ultimately remained decisive, and Mansfield fell 126–87.
