MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team (5-9(1-5 PSAC) came up short in a hard-fought contest Saturday, Oct. 18 against ranked #5 West Chester University (9-4(4-2 PSAC).
Jenna Duke and Sophia Vadnais each had goals on the day with assists by Amanda Ray and Regan Fiorito.
The Golden Rams struck first just over a minute into the game off a penalty-corner goal.
Mansfield answered later in the first quarter when Vandais buried a rebound from Ray to even the score at 1–1.Â
West Chester regained the lead midway through the second quarter on a tip-in.
The Mounties battled back as Duke converted a pass from Fiorito to tie it at 2–2 early in the second half.Â
The decisive goal came in the 52nd minute when the Golden Rams scored to put them ahead for good.Â
Mansfield continued to pressure late, but West Chester's defense held strong to secure the win.
