ANNAPOLIS, Md.- The Mansfield Mountaineers sprint football team suffered their first loss of the season, falling on the road to Navy 50-7, on Friday night, Oct. 10.
Weston Bellows was the leading rusher and receiver for the Mountaineers (2-1) accounting for 60 total yards.
Eli Swan and
Ajani Gibson each had three receptions for 37 yards.
Mac Krauss was 7-11 for 108 yards passing,
Steven Rosado was 4-6 for 41 yards in the air.
Defensively,
Jackson Taylor led the Mountaineers with 13 total tackles.
Shamus Lesher had seven tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss.
Matt Machmer had seven tackles and a blocked extra point.
The Midshipman (3-0) struck immediately, scoring twice before Mansfield's offense was able to handle the ball, collecting a fumbled opening kickoff for the score and using an onside kick to set up another scoring drive to lead 13-0.
The Mounties were unable to find a rhythm in the first half and Navy would add 10 more before halftime to go up 23-0.
In the second half, the Midshipmen offense would continue to score adding three more touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. To go up 50-0.
The Mountaineers would not be shutout, as they produced a 15 play 71-yard drive in the final minutes that was capped off with a Bellows rushing touchdown from a yard out. The score finished 50-7.
