BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers field hockey team (3-6, 0-2 PSAC) competed in their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) road contest of the season on Wednesday (Oct. 1) afternoon against No. 6 Bloomsburg (10-0, 2-0 PSAC), with the Huskies finding a 1-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
Bloomsburg connected early, using their first set of shots off the goalkeeper to post the early 1-0 edge just eight minutes into the contest, capping off five shots in the first fifteen minutes.Â
24 seconds into the second quarter caught the Mounties off guard, but
Olivia Kline saved a rolling ball to the cage with her first career defensive save to stop a sudden attack by the Huskies.Â
A rare 23 minutes had past until the first penalty corner of the afternoon for the host, who fired away two close calls in the final five minutes of the half, but
Lydia Miller kept the deficit to 1-0 into halftime.Â
Bloomsburg used their one early strike to luckily hold onto their undefeated start, with stifling defense able to help limit the Mounties.
For the red and black,
Amanda Ray registered the solo shot to end the third quarter, while the Huskies posted six shots in the final fifteen, but the Mansfield defense held strong.Â
The Mountaineers possessed in the final minutes and strolled into the circle for one final attempt, but the Bloomsburg blockade held firm for the 1-0 decision.
