Mounties Open Home Stint of 2025 With An Explosive Win

Anthony’s first half rallies the Mounties to win.

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield women's basketball team (6-7 2-5 PSAC East) played conference opponent Shepherd University (4-11 1-8 PSAC East) at Decker Gymnasium. The Mounties went on to get the team's first win of 2025 with a score of 72-42.

Paris Anthony led the Mounties with 15 points off the bench and shooting 7-9 from the field.

Sarah Hortin followed behind with 14 points and 14 rebounds earning the double-double.

The Mounties came out of the locker room with a hot hand in Anthony putting up two quick buckets in transition within the first four minutes of the contest. 

Kristen Fulford followed the quick buckets with one of her own putting the Mounties up 10-2. 

The Mountie defense gave up only twelve points in the first quarter, taking an 18-12 lead into the second quarter.

The Mounties fell into a shooting slump, and the Rams took their first lead of the game in the final three minutes of the second quarter, a 22-21 lead. 

Mansfield responded by putting up a 9-0 run to end the quarter with a 36-21 lead heading into the locker room.

The Mountaineers exited the locker room and relighted the spark from the first quarter with a three-pointer from Ellzy and never surrendered the lead.

The Mounties went on a four-minute run starting from 9:13 of 17-5  to increase the lead to 49-27.

The Mounties extended the lead to 59-32 going into the final quarter of play.

Mansfield kept the foot on the gas pedal and extended the lead off a ten-foot jumper from Cydney Stanton to put a thirty-point gap between the Rams with a score of 62-32.

The Mountaineers kept defensive pressure up until the end to take the 72-42 win as the first home win of the year.

The Mountaineers will be back at home to take on the Shippensburg Raiders on January, 11 which is set to tip off at 1 P.M.
