MANSFIELD, Pa. - Mansfield soccer (0-3-4, 0-3-2 PSAC East) welcomed the Shippensburg Raiders (1-5-1, 1-3-1 PSAC East) on Saturday (Sept. 28) afternoon for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division match-up.
In the second minute, Katelyn Rueppel scored her fifth goal of the season after she followed a mishandled shot from the Shippensburg goalie to put the Mounties up 1-0.
Five minutes later, Shippensburg scored off a second opportunity that rebounded off the crossbar.
Mansfield had a chance to go up 2-1 in the 36th minute but missed just wide left of the net off a Taylar Luckenbill free kick.
The Raiders jumped ahead early in the second after finishing a cross right in front of the net.
The Mountaineers had a good chance to equalize in the 58th minute, but the Raider keeper snared Olivia Hudson's shot.
The Mansfield attack was persistent in the final 30 minutes but couldn't find the tying goal, and they fell 2-1.
Mansfield goalkeeper Serenity Esterline got her first career start for the Mountaineers and finished with 7 saves.
