Mansfield Erases 3-0 Second Half Deficit, Draws Millersville

MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mountaineers soccer team (0-1-2, 0-1-1 PSAC East) hosted their first home Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game against the Millersville Marauders (1-1-1, 0-1-1 PSAC East) on Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon.

Mansfield had an early opportunity just four minutes in when Olivia Hudson struck the crossbar on a shot from outside the box.

The Marauders opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a rebound after their initial shot hit the bar and landed on the foot of the Millersville forward.

A defensive first half didn't hold many chances for either side until Mansfield forward Katelyn Rueppel found herself one-on-one with the Marauders' keeper. Still, Millersville kept the Mounties off the board and sent the game into half with a 1-0 lead.

An early penalty kick for Millersville in the second half allowed them to double their lead.

The Marauders added another thanks to a Mansfield own goal that got deflected in front.

Emily Smith got the Mountaineers on the board in the 72nd minute and sparked life back into the Mansfield attack. The goal moved Smith into a tie for 10th all time in career goals.

Four minutes later, the Mounties found another after the Marauders goalkeeper mishandled Lauren Straub's first shot. Rueppel was there to clean it up and slot it home to cut the deficit to one.

Katelyn Rueppel's second of the game tied the contest at three apiece with under three minutes to play. This goal also moved Rueppel into the top five all time for career goals.

The Mountaineer defense locked down the late push from Millersville and came away with a 3-3 draw.
