Defense Shines, Women’s Soccer Outlasted at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers (0-1-1, 0-1-0 PSAC East) fell in their opening Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup on Wednesday afternoon (Sept. 11) against the Lock Haven Bald Eagles (1-0-2, 1-0-0 PSAC East) by a final score of 1-0.

Kerrah Clymer recorded two shots on goal in the first 22 minutes as the Mountaineers created multiple opportunities.

Off a long throw-in in the 29th minute, Lock Haven went bar down from the right side of the box to jump ahead 1-0.

A flurry from the Bald Eagles followed the goal but the Mountaineer defense was up to the task of keeping the deficit at one entering halftime.

11 minutes into the second Mansfield had two consecutive opportunities and Clymer once again found herself in on goal. Her shot forced a save from The Haven keeper, leaving a rebound opportunity for freshman Brynn Knepp who forced a diving save to the goalie's right.

Momentum was fully in favor of Mansfield as moments later Knepp had another shot slip just wide.

In the 61st minute, Quelyn Nepa had a long strike from the edge of the box ring off the crossbar as the Mountaineers continued to threaten.

Just two minutes later the Mountie offense had multiple chances in the box but no shots could get through the bodies in front to find the equalizer.

Following the charge, Mansfield got one final opportunity with a corner in the 87th minute but could not complete the comeback.

Clymer finished the game with x shots on goal.

Mountaineer goalkeeper Alyssa Shuman finished with two saves.
