MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield senior Emma Palmer was named the 2023-24 winner of the Steve McCloskey Service Award, the athletic office announced at the Mountie Awards on Sunday, April 28.
Named in honor of longtime Mansfield Sports Information Director Steve McCloskey who retired during the spring of 2017, the award is presented annually to a student who embodies the Mansfield University spirit and provides exemplary service to the athletic department.
Palmer, who served as a student worker in the Athletic Communication & Marketing office throughout the 2023-24 year, was directly involved in gameday preparations and was the focal leader behind photography for all 13 athletic programs across the past athletic year.
"Palmer exemplifies the qualities of Steve McCloskey. There is no one, this year, more deserving of this accomplishment than her. She enhanced the student athlete experience with her photos throughout one of the most successful years in Mansfield athletics" Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing Drew Patrick said. "Emma's service extends further than just athletics in her work with the university as a whole as well. Her service to the Mansfield campus deserves and has earned this honor".
Palmer graduated with a 3.63 GPA as a dual major in Health Psychology and Counseling. The Mansfield, Pa. native landed on the Dean's List six times and appeared on the President's List once.
"I'm so thankful for all the opportunities that Mansfield has given me to continue one of my favorite passions. Once a Mountie always a Mountie!" Palmer said.
