MANSFIELD, Pa. – On Saturday (Apr. 20) afternoon, the Mansfield Mountaineers softball team (11-25, 2-24 PSAC East) hosted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action for their 2024 Senior Day with Kutztown (26-17, 14-10 PSAC East) as the Golden Bears swept the Saturday doubleheader, 8-3 and 9-0.Â
Before today's contest, head coach Edith Gallagher and the team honored their 2024 senior class: Anastasia Berardi, Gabby Drumm, Danielle Goff, Fallon Kelley, Kayla Vonstein, and Lauren Watson.Â
GAME 1: Kutztown 8 – Mansfield 3Â
A two-run shot by the Golden Bears ignited their early start in the second inning. Along with the first score, Kutztown added three more in the inning to hold the 5-0 advantage.
Adding to the damage, the opponent added two more in the third inning to increase their shutout to seven.Â
With a three-run blast to center field, Kelley posted her team leading fourth home run of the season, scoring Emma Wonsick and Caydence Macik to limit the lead to 7-3.Â
One final run in the top of the sixth inning by the Golden Bears finalized the game one score, 8-3.Â
Wonsick picked up two hits in game one.Â
GAME 2: Kutztown 9 – Mansfield 0 (5 innings)Â
It was a pitching battle to start the first four innings of the conference clash. Annabella Putnam and Haley Gravish allowed only four hits combined.Â
Kutztown posted the first run on the scoreboard after a solo shot smacked the scoreboard for the Golden Bears to hold the 1-0 edge in the top of the fifth.Â
KU used the wind to their advantage and sent three more smacks out of the field including two three-run shots and another run in the top of the sixth to hold a 9-0 advantage and end game two early with the Mounties. Â
Kayla Vonstein was credited with two hits for the Mounties.Â
