Mounties Drop Tuesday Clash with Lock Haven

The Mansfield softball team were in action two days in a row on Tuesday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – On Tuesday (Apr. 16) afternoon, the Mansfield Mountaineers softball team (11-23, 2-22 PSAC East) hosted Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action for their second consecutive afternoon against Lock Haven (15-21, 11-13 PSAC East) as the Bald Eagles rose on top, taking the Tuesday sweep, 13-4 and 14-3. 

GAME 1: Lock Haven 13 – Mansfield 4 

Lock Haven jumped out first, posting the first run in the top of the first.  

Sending her second shot of the season over the right field fence, Anastasia Berardi tied the ball game in the bottom of the first at 1-1. Doubling their score, Melissa Demo posted an RBI single, scoring Fallon Kelley to take the one run lead.  

The Bald Eagles mustered us five runs in the top of the third inning to hold the 6-2 edge.  

Carly Wywoda delivered an RBI single to score Emma Wonsick in the bottom of the third for the Mounties. 

Another run was scored by Demo for the Mounties, but Lock Haven posted four final runs across the final innings to knock down the Mounties, 13-4. 

GAME 2: Lock Haven 14 – Mansfield 3 (5 innings) 

Four early runs by the Bald Eagles lit up the scoreboard as Lock Haven posted the early 4-0 lead.  

Demo earned another RBI on the afternoon with a triple that brought around Kayla Vonstein for the first Mansfield run.  

The Haven added five more runs on the board across the second and third inning to increase their lead to 9-1. 

Kelley doubled to score Natalie Blackstone and Sarah Shupp posted her first career home run to give the Mounties two more runs on the day. 

Lock Haven dished out five more in the fifth inning to end game two early and take home the Tuesday sweep, 14-3.

Mansfield compete in their third doubleheader on Friday, April 19 with Shepherd University. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
