Mounties Close Memorable Year in Playoffs; Drop First Round Contest to Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers women's basketball team finished a memorable season, dropping a first round Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) first round playoff matchup to Kutztown, 66-48.

Seniors Alivia Paeglow finished her career with 13 points to lead the Mounties in scoring and Emilie Leidig had 12 points, making four shots from beyond the arc. Jasmine Hilton led the Mountaineers in rebounds with seven.

The Mounties struck out the gate, going up 6-0 on  back-to-back three point baskets from Leidig and Cydney Stanton. The Golden Bears traded buckets until the final four minutes where they went on a 13-2 run to lead Mansfield 21-12 after one.

Mansfield clawed back in the second quarter, led by their defense holding Kutztown to eight total points. The Mounties earned six offensive rebounds and ten second chance points in the quarter, but Kutztown led 29-24 going into the half.

The Mounties shooting went cold in the third quarter, going 3-17 from the field and scoring eight points as the Golden Bears began to pull away with the score 43-32.

Both squads traded baskets in the final quarter and the Mounties had their season come to a close, with the Golden Bears winning by a final score of 66-48.

The Mountaineers had a massive turn around this season, increasing their wins from three in 2023 to 11 this season.

"We've had a pretty exciting season" Coach Senefelder said reflecting on the year. "We had the highs and lows, but always kept fighting and did some really amazing things on the court this year."
