MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team (11-7, 2-6 PSAC East) finished off three straight days of action, hosting Bloomsburg (15-8, 4-2 PSAC East) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest as the Huskies grabbed both games, 13-3, and 7-2.Â
GAME 1: Bloomsburg 13 – Mansfield 3Â
With a bases loaded situation, Bloomsburg stormed out to a 4-0 edge after a grand slam in the top of the second inning. The Huskies proceeded to add five extra runs in the fifth to jump out to a 9-0 stronghold.Â
Gabby Drumm sent a solo shot over the left field wall, her first of the season, scoring Caydence Macik to stop the chance of the early exit. Kayla Vonstein added another run after an RBI single drove in Madison Stahli to bring the game to 9-3 after five innings.Â
Bloomsburg finished off the scoring, adding four more runs in the final two innings, to take the game one victory, 13-3.Â
GAME 2: Bloomsburg 7 – Mansfield 2
Bloomsburg challenged the Mounties once again in the top of the third with another bases loaded jam. Annabella Putnam defended the circle, striking out the last two batters to keep the scoreboard empty.
The top of the fourth saw the Huskies build an early lead. The opponent grabbed the first run off a runner scoring off a fielding error and doubled their lead with an RBI single to lead 2-0. Two more hits allowed two more runs for the maroon and gold to hold the 4-0 advantage. Â
Carly Wywoda posted the Mounties first run of game two with an RBI single to left to score Macik to start the bottom of the fourth, but with the bases filled, the Huskies stopped any chance for more damage to still hold the 4-1 edge. Â
A final solo shot and insurance runs in the top of the seventh clinched the doubleheader victory for the Huskies in the top of the fifth to secure the 7-2 secure victory. Â
Natalie Blackstone added the final run, driving in Melissa Demo in the bottom of the seventh.
