MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Mansfield Mountaineers softball team started Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Friday (Mar. 22) against the Millersville Marauders (12-9, 3-1 PSAC East) to begin an eight-game stretch for the Mounties across five days of conference play as the Marauders swept the afternoon doubleheader.Â
GAME 1: Millersville 2 – Mansfield 0Â
A defensive minded game started off the doubleheader for the Mounties (9-3, 0-2 PSAC East). In a quick game one, Millersville collected their only runs off a two RBI single in the bottom of the third inning.Â
For the Mounties, Melissa Demo collected two hits, while Fallon Kelley and Gabby Drumm each posted a hit.Â
Danielle Goff struck out four batters in her complete game, allowing only five hits and two earned runs. Â
Schaefer struck out 17 batters for the Marauders, her career high for a game.Â
GAME 2: Millersville 11 – Mansfield 0 (5 innings)Â
After a defensive game to start the afternoon, the Marauders found their groove in game two. The first two runs were scored by the host in the bottom of the second inning before an offensive outburst behind a nine run third inning to hold the 11-0 lead and finish off the scoring to secure the sweep.Â
Caydence Macik went a perfect two for two from the plate in game two.Â
Sarah Sherman appeared for 1.1 innings in relief and did not allow a hit. Â
