MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers baseball team (6-11, 2-6 PSAC East) welcomed the Millersville Marauders (18-3, 8-0 PSAC East) on Saturday afternoon for their first games at Joseph Shaute Field this season.
GAME 1
Millersville continued the trend from yesterday, scoring in the top of the first thanks to a solo home run.
The Mountaineers threatened in the bottom of the first putting two runs on but couldn't find the answer.
The Marauders mashed their second home run of the game in the top of the second to push their lead to 2-0.
The lead swelled again in the top of the third when Millersville added two to make it a 4-0 game.
Mansfield loaded the bases in the bottom of the third but was unable to push across any runs as the Marauder's lead remained at four.
The black and yellow continued to add insurance runs in the fourth with an RBI single extending the lead to 5-0.
A third home run of the game of the bat of Millersville once again stretched the lead, this time a two-run shot to give the Marauders a comfortable seven-run lead in the fifth.
The Marauders added another two in the top of the sixth, on the back of their fourth home run.
Jacob Houtz got the Mountaineers on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a solo home run to cut into the Millersville lead.
In the seventh, the Marauders tacked on a couple more and closed out the bottom half to secure an 11-1 game-one victory.
GAME 2
Tyler Swineford worked a scoreless first for the Mountaineers to start game two and bring the Mounties to the plate.
Zachary Shertzer doubled down the right field line in the bottom of the first to bring in Ryan Sekulski to give the Mountaineers their first lead of the series.
Millersville quickly responded, belting their fifth home run of the day in the top of the second. This one was a two-run shot to claim a 2-1 lead.
The Marauders mashed their sixth homer of the day in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead.
The seventh Millersville home run of the day knocked Swineford out of the game and extended their lead to five.
An eighth blast of the day and the fourth of the game for the black and yellow pushed their lead to 7-1 in the top of the fourth.
Ryan Verbonitz put the Mounties back on the board with an RBI groundout in the bottom half of the fourth.
A fifth-inning eruption for the Marauder's offense closed the game as Millersville went on to win by a final score of 26-3.
