NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On Thursday (Mar. 14), the Mansfield softball team (5-1) continued their success on their third day of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic, sweeping both Lycoming College (4-2) and Haskell Indian Nations University, defeating the Warriors 5-2 and the Indians 9-1 (F/5), to hold a four-game winning streak.
This marks the longest winning streak for the Mounties since 2019, when the team held a six-game winning streak near the end of conference play.
Fallon Kelley totaled five RBIs and two doubles on the day, posting a 5-6 day from the plate.
Kayla Vonstein picked up three RBIs on the day, including two triples and two runs in game two of the doubleheader.
Danielle Goff remains undefeated on the season and
Annabella Putnam picked up her second victory as the two only allowed six hits in the doubleheader.
GAME 1: Mansfield 5 – Lycoming 2
Lycoming scored the first run of the day with an RBI triple in the bottom of the second inning.
Kelley turned the scoreboard on for the Mounties with a deep double, driving in
Melissa Demo and Vonstein, to give Mansfield the 2-1 lead in the top of the third.
Caydence Macik added another run, scoring
Rachel Sherman to give the Mountaineers a two-run lead.
Another run by the Warriors trimmed the Mountie lead to 3-2 after the third inning.
Madison Bailey scoring on a fielder's choice and another RBI scored by Kelley was enough run support for Goff to close out the game.
After the third, Goff allowed only one hit for the Warriors en route to picking up her third win of the season after another complete game, striking out six and allowing only four hits as Mansfield defeated Lycoming, 5-2.
GAME 2: Mansfield 9 – Haskell Indian Nations University 1 (5 innings)
Continuing her dominance at the plate on the day, Kelley drove in the first run with an RBI single, scoring Vonstein in the bottom of the first inning.
The Mounties added three more runs in the second to build a strong cushion. Vonstein used her power and tripled to left, scoring
Lauren Watson. Demo singled, which brought in Vonstein. With Demo in scoring position, Anastasia Bernardi posted the third RBI of the inning, with a single to give Mansfield the 4-0 advantage.
Haskell's only run came in the third off a groundout to allow the runner to score.
From here on, the Mounties shut down their opponent. Kelley added another RBI double to her day, scoring Demo in the bottom of the fourth. A groundout from Macik pushed Kelley in to score to hold the 6-1 edge.
A fielder's choice allowed
Madison Stahli to score in the fifth and one final smack of the bat from Vonstein pushed a game-ending triple to bring around Watson and
Sarah Shupp to defeat Haskell in five innings, 9-1.
Putnam earned another complete game victory on the season, pitching all five innings, allowing only two hits, while striking out two.
