MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers men's basketball team (6-16, 4-13 PSAC East) hosted the PSAC's fifth-ranked Shepherd University Rams (10-12, 7-10 PSAC East) for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup.
Manir Waller, Saraj Ali, and Scott Woodring all tied for a team-high 10 points. Michael Dickson and Gabe Perez each added nine points.
Woodring opened the Mansfield scoring with the first five points of the game for the Mountaineers.
Shepherd took the lead at the 11:58 mark with a pull-up jumper by Marcus Banks.
The Rams would hold the lead for the remainder of the first half, stretching their advantage out to as many as 15 in the half.
To close out the first half, Shepherd hit a three at the buzzer to take a 34-21 lead into the break.
Woodring led the Mountaineers in the first half with five points, and Ali added four points on 2-3 shooting from the field.
Shepherd began the half on an 8-0 run to push their lead out to 21 before Woodring stopped the bleeding with a three from the top of the arc.
The Woodring three, sparked a 9-0 run for the Mountaineers as they looked to chip away at the Rams lead.
Mansfield cut the Shepherd lead down to eight with a Woodring layup following a Dickson steal that took the game into the under-12 media timeout.
The Rams extended their lead back to double-digits with 8:06 left in the second half after drilling their third straight three.
With a 16-point lead and under four minutes to go in the game, Shepherd looked to be in full control.
The Mounties got it down to as little as six in the second half but couldn't overcome the early deficit as they fell to the Shepherd Rams 77-60.
