Shuman Sets New Career-High as Mounties Drop Final Road Contest of 2024 Season

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers soccer team (0-14-3, 0-14-1 PSAC East) traveled to Kutztown on Saturday afternoon to play the Golden Bears (9-2-6, 7-2-6 PSAC East) and was defeated by a final score of 3-0. 

The Golden Bears controlled most of the possession in the first fifteen minutes forcing Mansfield goalkeeper to make two early saves.

In the 30th minute, Kutztown had a great chance in front off a deflection but Shuman made the save, tallying her fifth of the half.

At the half, Shuman was up to seven saves as KU had registered 12 shot attempts.

The Golden Bears broke the scoreless tie in the 60th minute with a shot from inside the right edge of the box, finding the top left of the net past the Mountaineers defense.

Kerrah Clymer registered Mansfield's first shot on goal in the 69th minute but the KU keeper was in position to make the save.

Kutztown scored their second of the game off a free kick in the 70th to double their advantage to 2-0.

Three minutes later, the Golden Bears took a 3-0 lead after they broke through the Mountaineer back line and capitalized on the one-on-one opportunity.

Alyssa Shuman set a new career-high with 12 saves.

Taylar Luckenbill led the Mountaineers in shots.

Kerrah Clymer and Luckenbill led in shots on goal with one each.

The Mountaineers conclude their 2024 season on Saturday (Nov. 9) as they welcome East Stroudsburg for Senior Day. Kick-off from Karl Van Norman Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
