Mounties Fall in PSAC East Contest at Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Mansfield Soccer (0-12-3, 0-12-1 PSAC East) was defeated by the Shippensburg University Raiders (5-7-2, 5-5-2 PSAC East) on Saturday (Oct. 26) afternoon's conference matchup by a final score of 5-0.

The Raiders controlled the first 20 minutes of play, racking up eight shots as the Mountaineers' offense worked to find counter-attacking options.

Although Shippensburg held most of the possession in the first half, the Mountie defense did well in limiting their opportunities and not giving up any threatening scoring chances.

The best opportunity of the half came with just over five minutes remaining. Shippensburg was awarded a free kick from right outside the box, but their shot missed wide right.

Mansfield goalkeeper Alyssa Shuman made four saves in the half to maintain the 0-0 tie at the break.

Shippensburg broke the tie in the 52nd minute, scoring a goal off of a corner as the ball bounced around in the box before being tapped home.

Seven minutes later the Raiders doubled their advantage, this time capitalizing on a rebound right in front of the Mansfield net.

The Raiders added a third in the 67th minute, their second of the game from a corner kick, this time a header to the left side of the net to go up 3-0.

In the 80th minute, Shippensburg was awarded a penalty kick and slotted it home to extend their lead to 4-0.

The fifth and final Raiders goal came in the 82nd minute to cap off the 5-0 victory.

Lauren Straub and Sarah Rader each recorded one shot on goal to lead the Mountaineers.

Shuman finished the game with 10 saves and Serenity Esterline who was subbed on in the 76th minute made three saves.
