Mountaineers Comeback Falls Short On Road at Bloomsburg

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers soccer team (0-11-3, 0-11-1 PSAC East) was defeated on the road by the Bloomsburg Huskies (8-4-2, 6-4-2 PSAC East) on Wednesday (Oct. 23) night by a final score of 1-0.

Mansfield registered the first shot on goal of the contest, a long-range try from Caitlyn Hoppe, but the Huskies keeper was in position to make the save.

Much of the first 25 minutes were played in the midfield, with neither side creating many offensive chances to score the game's first goal.

Mountie keeper Alyssa Shuman had to wait until the 30th minute to face her first shot but she had no trouble controlling the Bloomsburg shot on goal.

With just under five minutes to go in the half, Bloomsburg found the top right corner from distance to take a 1-0 lead over Mansfield.

An early corner in the second half provided a chance for the Huskies, but Serenity Esterline who had just subbed into the game made the save.

Following the corner, Bloomsburg controlled most of the possession for the second half but the Mansfield defense did well to keep the deficit at one entering the last 20 minutes of play.

Mansfield had a chance to tie the game in the 74th minute after a Bloomsburg miscue, but the ball was cleared off the line to preserve the 1-0 lead.

The Mounties battled until the end looking for an opportunity at the equalizer but couldn't get a clean look and fall at Bloomsburg.

Taylar Luckenbill and Hoppe led the Mounties in shots on goal with one each.

Esterline finished the game with three saves.
