MANSFIELD, Pa.- The Mansfield Mountaineers sprint football team was outlasted by the Chestnut Hill Griffins in a high scoring matchup, on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Karl Van Norman Field.

Cahsid Raymond accounted for three scores and
Marcus Quaker accounted for the other pair, but the Griffins (3-2) were able to come away with the 42-35 victory over the Mounties (1-4).

Raymond threw for 187 yards, had two receptions for 22 yards and ran for 19 more. Quaker had 84 yards through the air and 30 on the ground.
Marcus Melle had 109 yards receiving,  to lead Mansfield.

The Mounties opened the scoring as Quaker found Melle on a 28-yard strike, midway through the first quarter.

Chestnut Hill tied it up on the following drive with a five yard pass play from Anthony Cancellare to Anthony Droege, that tied it at 7-7.Â

Mansfield responded on a six-play drive capped off with a 24 yard pass from Raymond to
LaTrenton Randle, to go up 14-7.

Laurence Howard punched it in from eight yards out to retie the game at 14-14.

The Griffins got an interception and then marched 95 yards in 12 plays to score with 11 seconds remaining in the half, on a pass from Cancellare to Miles Coates. The halftime score was 21-14.

Mansfield took the first drive 87 yards and Raymond took a pitch five yards to tie the game, 21-21.Â

The Griffin ground game lead to two back to back scoring drives. Scores by Folley Tarley and Howard put Chestnut Hill up 35-21.

The Mountaineers fought back and Quaker punched it in from 6 yards out.

The Griffins were able to corral the ensuing onside kick , and turned it into a 42 yard touchdown pass from Cancellare to Coates.Â

Raymond scored once more to bring it back to one score, but a second failed onside kick lead to the Griffins victory 42-35.Â

Cancellare was 11-12 passing with 168 yards and three touchdowns. Howard had 166 yards on the ground and two scores.Â

The Mountaineers are back in action Saturday, Oct. 26, as they travel to West Point to take on Army.Â
