No. 9 Mountaineers Hosts Senior Day Against No. 1 Shippensburg

The Mansfield field hockey team had their 2024 Senior Day on Saturday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. - For their 2024 Senior Day, the No. 9 Mansfield Mountaineer field hockey team (7-4, 1-1 PSAC) hosted No. 1 Shippensburg (10-0, 3-0 PSAC) for a nationally ranked Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on Sat. (Oct. 12) afternoon, but the Raiders spoiled the special Saturday, 6-1.

Before today's contest, head coach Brittany Hansrote, assistant coach Jaimie Stettler, and the team honored their 2024 senior class: Carli Eberly, Lauren Grello, August Lewis, Ashtyn Price, Emily Santillana, and Kenedy Stroup.

Shippensburg struck first with an early one timer in the first four minutes of action to take 1-0 lead. The Raiders did not wait long to double their lead, catching a lucky bounce off a shot to post the 2-0 lead after the first quarter.

Another tap in goal was blasted in for the Raiders, pushing out a third goal three minutes into the second quarter.

16 seconds remaining in the first half was all the visitors needed to put away their fourth goal in a dominant 4-0 lead heading into the locker rooms.

In the first minute of the second half, Kenedy Stroup tried to spark the Mountaineer offense with their first goal of the day, using a penalty corner assist from Sophia Vadnais to avoid the Saturday shutout.

To end the day, Shippensburg added two final goals in the last quarter, with one final tap in goal and a rebound goal in to end the conference clash with the 6-1 victory.
