MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Mansfield Mountaineers football team (0-1, 0-1 CSFL North) opened up the 2023 season at home and dropped the home opener to Army (0-1, 0-1 CSFL North), 47-6.
Matt Robert opened up the game with his first tackle earning him the top position on the all-time school record list. The linebacker finished with 10 solo tackles overall and four tackles for loss.
On the day, the Mounties picked up 269 yards of total offense. Cahsid Raymond threw for 188 yards with a touchdown and ran for 51 yards on the ground.
Eli Swan made an impact in his debut, catching five receptions for 99 yards and his first touchdown on a 42-yard long shot.
LaTrenton Randle grabbed 83 yards on three receptions, including a 56 yard reception.
Another defensive standout, Gavin Hinman, collected 10 solo tackles on the day. Ian Mapp landed a sack, a forced fumble, and four tackles.
Army collected 442 yards of total offense, including 230 yards through the air.
The Black Knights opened up the first quarter with a 21-0 lead and never looked back.
Raymond's 42-yard touchdown pass gave Mansfield their first score of the season to make it 21-7.
The opponent put ten more points on the scoreboard before halftime to make it 31-6.
Two more touchdowns and a safety for the Black Knights ended the scoring and the opponent claimed the 47-6 victory to open the season.
Overall, 33 penalties were called on the day, with 303 yards gained off the flags flying.
