Lewis Breaks All-Time Shutouts Record, No. 6 Mansfield Defeats Maryville, 2-0

The Mansfield field hockey team hosted Maryville to open Military Appreciation Weekend on Friday afternoon.

MANSFIELD, Pa. – August Lewis broke the career shutouts school record as the No. 6 Mansfield Mountaineer field hockey team (5-1) took down Maryville (4-2), 2-0, in a nonconference battle to open the Military Appreciation Weekend on Friday afternoon.

Lewis now holds the record for the most shutouts in a career after earning her 14th shutout today, passing the recent Brittany Ryan for the top position.

The 5-1 for the Mounties sits as their best start since 2007.

To start off the afternoon, the Mounties continued their hot streak of a first quarter goal in every game this season, coming from Eilie Holland as her first of the season to take the early lead.

The Mounties dominance on the field helped hold the Saints to no goals into the half with the goal lead.

Blaise Cugini doubled the lead for the Mounties in the fifth minute of the third quarter.

With the clock winding down, no more action happened in the final quarter to lead to Lewis's career day and the Mounties finishing the 2-0 victory.

Overall, the offense landed 21 shots, with eight shots on goal throughout the contest.

The defensive trio of Riley Kleinfelter, Hannah Meyer, and Sophia Vadnais helped limit the opponent to just one shot on goal on the day.
